The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

At Vernham Dean Gillum's C of E Primary School we were very excited to join with the village to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in May of 2022.

It was such a memorable, historic occasion in the children's lives and we had lots of events planned such as:

  • A piece of Tapestry artwork, which each child contributed to.
  • A clay mosaic.
  • Our own Platinum Jubilee Bake Off, with each class designing and making an "Elizabeth cake" after researching what the Queen's favourite flavours were.
  • Designing the decorations for the top of the commemorative cake being made by people in the village, with the winning design being decorated on the top and this was then served at the street party on Sunday 5th June.
  • Dressing up as kings and Queens from different eras and then in red, white, purple and blue.
  • Finally, we had a family picnic on the Burydene, making decorations, invitations for our family and making the sandwiches for the picnic, that were fit for a Queen! This linked to our DT projects in school.
  • We also developed our sensory garden, created a wild flower meadow and created bug hotels in our school grounds to encourage wildlife to visit us - especially the bees!
