Ofsted inspect schools to ensure they are providing the best education for the children in their care. The last Ofsted inspection our school had was on the 31st October and the 1st November 2023. 

Vernham Dean is a 'GOOD' school and "pupils love coming to this small school with a big heart."

We are delighted with our recent 'Good' Inspection result - it reflects the commitment of the skilled staff team and the good quality education the children receive both academically and for their individual personal development and wellbeing. "A genuinely calm and happy school community."

We are always immensely proud of our children and this report validates what we already knew. The report states that our children:

“work hard in class and are eager to learn."

"show the school's values of courage, creativity and compassion.”

"play together very positively"

"behaviour is good both in classrooms and around the school, creating a calm environment to learn in."

"speak to each other and to adults with respect."

Leaders are also extremely proud of the dedicated staff team here at Vernham Dean. The Inspectors found that:

"the school is ambitious and wants pupils to achieve their best"

"the school prioritises reading"

"pupils learn phonics effectively"

"the curriculum is well-sequenced in all subjects"

"the school supports all pupils well, particularly those who are disadvantaged, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)"

"teachers adapt tasks set to meet pupils' individual needs"

"if a pupil has a difficulty, good quality pastoral support enables them to settle quickly"

"safeguarding is effective"

Obviously we know the hard work doesn’t stop here. Our journey is of continual improvement and so we will strive to push ourselves to develop our school to embed our already effective curriculum.
